Translated by Alexandru Munteanu

Living the apostolic life to it’s fullest extent and selflessly serving his flock with the love of the Good Shepherd, the holy hierarch Callinicus exemplified the definition of a true bishop. His spirit, being totally engrossed in the monastic ideal, whether as a simple monk, abbot, or hierarch, never once held itself back in self-love but faithfully fulfilled all of Christ’s commandments and stewarded the many talents given to him. Thus the holy bishop was deeply loved by all, and he worked—and continues to work—many miracles for the healing and edification of the faithful.

I was amazed at such a supranatural life, for I saw that I serve a living saint. Therefore, I dared to ask him many times things concerning divine mysteries and he would reveal what he knew would be useful to me and could fit in my weak and darkened mind. If I, however, would proceed with questions further on, he would say to me, “Now is not the time for such questions.”

The last words of his disciple express a solemn confession towards the faithful: “I declare on my conscience, as an archimandrite and spiritual father, the sinner that I am, and in the name of truth, that this Holy Bishop Callinicus as he came out of his mother’s womb likewise entered in the womb of the earth.”
